“My heart says of you, ‘Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek.” — Psalms‬ ‭27‬:‭8‬

Ancient faith. Open table.

1927 is a liturgically rooted, Spirit-filled church community that longs to awaken a deep hunger for God’s presence — a hunger rooted in the truth of His Word, formed by the rhythms of worship, and empowered by the life of the Spirit

Our 3 Values:

01
Seek His Face

02
Form Disciples

03
Extend His Kingdom

1927 is a Global Methodist church in Des Moines — a community committed to worship that is beautiful, ordered, and Spirit-filled. We believe that the ancient rhythms and liturgies of the ancient church are NOT obstacles to encountering the presence of God, but pathways into it.

We describe ourselves as liturgically charismatic — not as a contradiction, but as a conviction. The liturgy gives us form; the Spirit gives us life. Both are gifts. We receive them both.

We are for the spiritually serious, the liturgically curious, the worn-out, the wondering, and anyone who believes the church should feel like a place apart.

CHAPTERS
The Engine of 1927

A Sacred Movement of Holiness

A Sacred Movement of Holiness

Sunday morning is where we gather. CHAPTERS are where we grow. Small, intentional, and covenantal — CHAPTERS are the heartbeat of discipleship at 1927. They meet throughout the week, in homes and gathering spaces across Des Moines.

  • Chapters are intentionally small — 6 to 10 people. Not a Bible study. Not a social group. A covenantal community committed to one another's formation.

  • Every Chapter meeting opens with the same question Wesley asked: "How is it with your soul?"

Honesty is expected. Judgment is not.

  • Chapters move through Scripture together — not with a curriculum, but with a posture of listening. The Word shapes the conversation.

Men's Chapters

Men's Chapters are spaces of unguarded honesty — where men can speak plainly about faith, failure, vocation, and the life of the Spirit without pretense.

Women's Chapters

Women's Chapters create space for deep, formational community — where women are known, challenged, and supported in their walk with God.

What We Believe

  • The Bible is the inspired, authoritative Word of God and the final rule for faith and practice.

  • We confess one God in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — as revealed in Scripture and affirmed by the ancient creeds.

  • We believe the Holy Spirit is active today — gifting, guiding, and renewing the church in every generation.

  • Baptism and Communion are means of grace — visible signs of invisible realities — celebrated weekly at the Lord's Table.

  • We believe that the local church exists primarily for the worship of the Godhead, second for the equipping of the saints, and lastly for the restoration of our communities and world.

  • The Gospel is the Good News of Jesus and His kingdom, and that salvation is received by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone — his life, death, resurrection, and coming return.
